This past week marked the beginning of the endorsement season for my re-election campaign for City College. I’m excited to tell you about a few things about City College and my campaign:
- First of all, I’d like to welcome Ivy Lee (pictured between Board President Davila and me), the newest Trustee who was appointed last week. Ivy was the legislative aide to Supervisor Kim when FREE CITY was being crafted and we are very excited to have her on the board. I’m especially proud to see that we now have a majority female board. Congratulations to Ivy Lee!
- I hired a Campaign Manager & Finance Director! Please welcome Alex Shorter (pictured between me and Natalie Gee) to our team! Alex has hit the ground running—working with my AWESOME volunteers as we reach out to organizations and voters for support! Please let us know if you’d like a window sign, to endorse, to donate, or to volunteer to help us win the race for re-election.
- There was some sad news this month as well. A 22-year old transgender student, Daine Grey, took his life on July 2nd. The Queer Resource Center contacted his mother and put together a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral. While we are saddened by this all-too-frequent tragedy, we are heartened by the community coming together, generously donating, and reaching out to Daine’s mother. As per Daine’s mother’s wishes, please send any additional donations to the Queer Resource Center at City College.
I hope to earn your support as we work towards increasing our enrollment, ensuring financial stability for the college, improving FREE CITY for all San Franciscans, and making sure we are building safe and sustainable campuses for current and future students.
Thank you for your help.
